Maximum tissue levels are obtained at 20% L-ascorbic acid. Any amount higher or lower than 20% is not an optimal concentration. You will see some companies market their serums at 20%, however they may be using other acid combinations to achieve this level. The L-ascorbic acid in our serum is exactly 20%. Additional ingredients are enhancements to maximize effectiveness and stability.
pH: Many Vitamin C preparations are not pH adjusted for optimal biologic activity and penetration. The optimal pH of an L-ascorbic acid formula is between 2.5 - 3.0. Anything higher than pH 3 can reduce the ability to penetrate efficiently and lose overall effectiveness of the vitamin. Anything lower than pH 2.5 can cause irritations and very dry skin. If you're not getting L-Ascorbic Acid, you're not purchasing a high-end product.
Always use a sunscreen of SPF 30+ when using acidic products.
Shelf Life: 4-6 months when stored in a cool, dry place.
Topical vitamin C: a useful agent for treating photoaging and other dermatologic conditions.

Cosmeceuticals containing antioxidants are among the most popular antiaging remedies. Topically applied antioxidants exert their benefits by offering protection from damaging free radicals produced when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light or allowed to age naturally. Vitamin C is a naturally occurring potent water-soluble antioxidant. Accordingly, it has been incorporated into a variety of cosmeceuticals designed to protect and rejuvenate photoaged skin.
This article reviews the scientific data and clinical studies supporting the use of topically applied vitamin C for treating photoaged skin. Other innovative uses for vitamin C cosmeceuticals are also discussed.
A significant body of scientific research supports the use of cosmeceuticals containing vitamin C. Cutaneous benefits include promoting collagen synthesis, photoprotection from ultraviolet A and B, lightening hyperpigmentation, and improvement of a variety of inflammatory dermatoses. Because of the diverse biologic effects of this compound, topical vitamin C has become a useful part of the dermatologist's armamentarium.
Please note: If you have sensitive skin, please consider our MUAC Super C & E Serum which is unlikely to cause irritation. However, as with any product, patch-test the area-of-use first.
